![]() Laying on my bedroom floor as an icon-crazed, dreamy teenager I listened to Beyonce sing “Who’s gonna save the hero” and thought to myself why would she possibly need saving? She owns the world! It’s easy to become confused when you read these words: I lay alone awake at night Sorrow fills my eyes But I'm not strong enough to cry Despite of my disguise I'm left with no shoulder But everyone wants to lean on me I guess I'm their soldier Well, who's gonna be mine? Who's there to save the hero When she's left all alone? And she's crying out for help Who's there to save the hero? Who's there to save the girl After she saves the world? After she saves the world Then, it dawned on me as I lay there sketching a magazine photo of the lady who would undeniably have a hand in saving the world! She had a purpose that was beyond what my young mind could even imagine and her song was NO CRY FOR HELP, but simply a ballad that encrypted a journey’s tale. 1. Surviving a girl group! 2. Meeting her hero!! 3. Singing at a presidential inauguration!!! 4. Advocating ending child obesity!!!! 5. Joining the ranks of great mothers in her family from fashion designer grandmother to “Do-it-all Tina”!!!!! 6. Becoming one of Forbes most powerful black women!!!!!! In retrospect of all of this, she now sings: I was here I lived, I loved I was here I did, I've done, everything that I wanted And it was more than I thought it would be I will leave my mark so everyone will know I was here. You tell me what’s not to love about Beyonce, a sweet southern belle who became a World Wide Woman...
